The Material Mansfield also includes her thoughts from abroad and captures the intriguing personal style of New Zealand’s most famous writer.
The Material Mansfield was a very rewarding project, requiring design flair in keeping with its subject and meticulous attention to detail. We have a limited number of copies to give away. Richard Langston’s fifth book opens with a 13-poem sequence about the earthquake which struck Christchurch at 12:51 on February 22, 2011 killing 184 people. These are poems of invention and witness — Richard covered the event as a news reporter. He wrote them for his colleagues and the people of Christchurch as the city lay in ruins.
The main body of the poems mixes the everyday and the lyrical with Richard’s characteristic economy and warmth. He can be heard regularly reading his work on Radio NZ National.
THE NEWSPAPER POEMS
Richard Langston
Published by FitzBeck Creative
‘Regard this as a bouquet to ink’ – this is Richard Langston’s paean to the world of newspaper reporting and reporters. To the gone age of the setting of metal type, the sound of a roomful of typewriters. To the past age of the afternoon city newspaper. This was the age of journalism before it went to university, the time of journalist as character…
We designed and published his third collection of poems which celebrate a bygone age of print journalism.
